A street racing crash in Northwest Harris County last month left two onlookers seriously hurt with broken bones and other horrific injuries. Ronald Gray Pace III, son of famous Houston racer Barefoot Ronnie Pace, faces two charges of racing causing serious bodily injury after the terrible crash, which also involved a second driver who was expected to face charges.
The two drivers were allegedly illegally racing on March 17 during the TX2K racing event, which is a legally organized event in Baytown. A crowd had come to watch racers at TX2K when Pace lost control of his vehicle and crashed into them, prosecutors allege.
The crash left two pedestrians with catastrophic injuries. “These injuries are horrific. In fact, I am shocked that these two young men were able to survive,” Prosecutor Sean Teare told local news outlet KHOU 11.
Teare went on to stress the deadly reality of racing: “I’m here to tell you, street racing is a terrible scourge on this community and this entire country. Deaths occur every time people decide to do this and we’re going to stop it in Harris County.”
