Mar. 4–5, 2026 Petromax Refining Company — Channelview / East Harris County, Texas Tank fire / chemical odor Multiple reports came in of tanks burning at the Petromax refinery facility on Sheldon Road in Channelview. Channelview firefighters and the facility fire brigade responded; hazmat crews were called as a precaution, all personnel were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.
Mar. 23, 2026 Valero Port Arthur Refinery — Port Arthur, Texas Explosion, fire, process-fluid release EPA reported being notified of an explosion and fire at the Valero refinery, with initial reports indicating a diesel hydrotreater heater fire and releases including methane, hydrogen sulfide, PM2.5, and VOCs. Reuters later reported that an unforeseeable process-fluid release ignited the blast and fire and caused a full refinery shutdown.
Apr. 12, 2026 PEMEX Deer Park Refinery dock — Deer Park, Texas Diesel spill / refinery dock leak PEMEX reported that personnel contained a diesel spill at the Deer Park refinery dock. May 8, 2026 PBF / Chalmette Refining — Chalmette, Louisiana Explosion and fire A reformer heater exploded at the Chalmette refinery, causing a large fire and black smoke plume. Reuters reported the explosion occurred at 12:51 p.m. CDT; AP reported no injuries and that air quality was not affected by toxic chemicals.
May 11, 2026 HF Sinclair Refinery — West Tulsa, Oklahoma Large fire A large fire broke out at HF Sinclair’s west Tulsa refinery, sending a plume of black smoke over the area. Tulsa crews responded, but the refinery’s own fire brigade handled the fire while Tulsa and Berryhill fire departments stood by; the cause had not been released in the initial report.
May 27, 2026 PBF Torrance Refinery — Torrance, California Leak / unplanned flaring PBF’s Torrance refinery experienced an unplanned flaring event. Reuters reporting, republished by Sahm Capital, said the flaring was due to a leak at one of the hydrotreater units and that no off-site impact had been reported at the time.
May 28, 2026 CITGO Corpus Christi East Plant — Corpus Christi, Texas Pump / tank-farm fire A fire broke out at CITGO’s East Plant on Refinery Row around 1:15 p.m., sending smoke over the north side. Local officials said a gasoline pump between three tanks appeared to catch fire; crews shut valves, Refinery Terminal Fire Company teams fought the blaze, and no injuries were reported.
June 21, 2026 Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery — Texas City, Texas Fire / smoke plume / shelter-in-place A reported fire at Marathon’s Galveston Bay refinery triggered a shelter-in-place order for parts of Texas City. The order was later lifted, and initial reports said no injuries were reported.
June 25, 2026 Monroe Energy Trainer Refinery — Trainer, Pennsylvania Pump-room fire and oil spill A fire occurred in the FCC unit pump room at Monroe Energy’s Trainer refinery.
