A similar increase was experienced across Houston, too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h2><b>Texas Car Accident Statistics\u00a0<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the pandemic where there were fewer cars on the road, the number of accidents across the state increased over the year before. Here are the numbers for the two most recent years:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3,896 traffic fatalities vs. 3,623<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fatality rate of 1.33 deaths per hundred million vehicle miles traveled vs. 1.26<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">12,107 serious injury crashes vs. 12,907<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">205,498 individuals injured in motor vehicle crashes vs. 256,797<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the most recent numbers, one person is killed every two hours and 15 minutes and one is injured every two minutes and 34 seconds in a Texas motor vehicle accident.<\/span><\/p><h2><b>Houston Car Accident Statistics\u00a0<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Motor vehicle accident statistics from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.txdot.gov\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2020\/14.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TxDOT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for Houston in 2020 show there were:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">58,167 total crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">263 fatal crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">274 fatalities<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1,194 suspected serious crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1,378 suspected serious injuries<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4,444 injury crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5,939 injuries<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For 2019, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.txdot.gov\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2019\/14.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TxDOT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reports the following statistics for Houston:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">68,932 total crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">242 fatal crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">255 fatalities<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1,208 suspected serious crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1,402 suspected serious injuries<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5,364 injury crashes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">7,158 injuries<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These statistics show that there were fewer Houston car crashes for the most recent year.
