Tragically, motorcycle fatalities were high even before that time, though. For nearly a decade, it seems, Houston and all of Texas have had a motorcycle fatality problem.<\/p>\n<h2>Motorcycle Accident Statistics in Texas<\/h2>\n<p>Statistics collected from the Texas Department of Transportation show the magnitude of the problem associated with motorcycle accidents and fatalities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2012\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2012<\/a>, there were 471 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2013\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2013<\/a>, there were 503 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2014\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2014<\/a>, there were 468 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2015\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2015<\/a>, there were 464 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2016\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2016<\/a>, there were 500 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.dot.state.tx.us\/pub\/txdot-info\/trf\/crash_statistics\/2017\/10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2017<\/a>, the last year for which data is available, there were 501 motorcycle fatalities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the exception of 2014 and 2015, nearly every year sees an increase in motorcycle fatalities, and the trend is not getting any better.<\/p>\n<h2>Tips for Preventing Motorcycle Fatalities in Houston<\/h2>\n<p>With motorcycle fatalities on the rise, it\u2019s important that all bikers know how to keep themselves safe on the roads.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First and foremost, always wear a helmet.
