A worker died Wednesday, after a reported tank failure caused a massive tar spill at a South Houston industrial facility on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. According to ABC13, the incident happened at the Martin Asphalt facility in the 300 block of Christy Place, where aerial images showed a large amount of liquid tar around a damaged tank. Early reports referred to the substance as asphalt, but officials have updated the description to tar.<\/p>\n

Officials reported that the tank involved held approximately 50,000 gallons of material and that the worker was buried under about three feet of tar. The victim\u2019s body was later recovered, and officials said the cause of the incident had not yet been determined.<\/p>\n

Because the investigation is still active, no final conclusion has been made about what caused the tank failure or whether any company, contractor, equipment manufacturer, or other party may be legally responsible<\/a>.<\/p>\n
