Fisher-Price has issued a recall for about 4.7 million Rock ’n Play Sleepers after a Consumer Reports investigation revealed more than 30 babies had died in the sleepers since 2009. The recall alert, issued April 12, warned that unrestrained infants had rolled over from their backs onto their stomachs while in the sleepers, a danger that can result in suffocation.

“I am glad to see this product off the market and urge all parents to talk to their pediatricians about how to keep their babies safe during sleep time and any time,” Dr. Ben Hoffman, chairperson of American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention Executive Committee, told Consumer Reports. The American Academy of Pediatrics had previously warned that babies should only be put to sleep on their backs on a firm, flat mattress, and it has urged parents not to use inclined, padded sleeping products such as the Rock ’n Play.

What to Do If You Have This Product

Consumers are urged to stop using the Rock ’n Play Sleepers immediately and contact Fisher-Price to receive a refund or voucher. The sleepers were originally sold at major retailers for $40 to $149.

You can start the return process by visiting the Mattel & Fisher-Price Customer Service website. You will need to package the two hub assemblies from the sleeper to send back using a prepaid mailing label from the company. You should also include your original receipt if you have it. If you do not have the receipt, you can write the month and year of purchase on one of the hubs.

If you have owned the sleeper for less than six months, you will receive a full refund. If you have owned the sleeper for longer than six months, you will receive a voucher.

What to Do If Your Child Was Hurt in a Rock ’n Play Sleeper

As parents, we trust that the baby products being sold in stores are safe for our little ones. We expect that the companies that manufacture and sell these products have performed satisfactory safety checks to protect babies from being harmed. Sadly, dangerous products do make it to market, and they may continue to be sold for years before anything is done about it.

At The Law Offices of Hilda Sibrian, our experienced Houston product liability attorneys have taken on large corporations on behalf of injured consumers. We have the skills and the resources necessary to demand justice for families who have been irreversibly harmed by dangerous consumer products.

Although we understand that there is no amount of money that can change what your family has been put through, a successful product liability lawsuit can hold companies accountable and send a message that profits should never be placed above people. Contact us today to talk to a compassionate wrongful death lawyer about your rights. A consultation is free.
